Today’s Barcelona Newspaper El Periódico notes that Russians and Basques head the list for tourism in Barcelona and wishes to welcome them in their own languages. Unfortunately however, the Russian is wrong. It should say Добро пожаловать! (Dobro pozhálovat’).
The third letter of the first word (b) should have its upper ‘tail’ coming from the left as in the Latin form of the letter and like the number 6. Somehow, they have managed to get the Serbian/Macedonian form of the letter instead of the Russian.
But that is not all. They have repeated the first letter (п/p) of the second word as the fifth (л/l). The written letters are, admittedly, similar in appearance, and especially so in the font that they have chosen, but the result of the whole thing is rather like writing Velcøme!
