Looks like 1453 to me - see eg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabic_numerals. It obviously doesn't refer to the fall of Constantinople but I think to Friedrich III having become Holy Roman Emperor and Austria an archduchy in that year. Friedrich liked Graz.

I am sure you're right. I had noticed a certain Arabic similarity (I lived in Saudi for a time and learnt to read the numerals -- though that was a long time ago) but the 4 symbol floored me.


I used to share a desk with a Gujarati, and it's their 4 upside down.
