This morning I went to the Legal Deposit (the equivalent of the British copyright libraries) to get the registry number for Pearls of the English Language. The procedure went smoothly but when I look at the Deposit’s website I find (click to enlarge images):

Yes, venal does mean for sale in English but not quite in that sense!
